SCAVENGER HUNT POST

Mary Weber

Today, I am hosting Mary Weber on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Mary Weber is a ridiculously uncoordinated girl plotting to take over make-believe worlds through books, handstands, and imaginary throwing knives. In her spare time, she feeds unicorns, sings 80’s hairband songs to her three muggle children, and ogles her husband who looks strikingly like Wolverine. Author of the STORM SIREN trilogy, Mary lives in California, which is perfect for stalking L.A. bands, Joss Whedon, and the ocean. {Twitter @mchristineweber, Instagram @maryweberauthor, Blog: maryweber.com}

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

Storm Siren cover

In a world at war, a slave girl’s lethal curse could become one kingdom’s weapon of salvation. If the curse—and the girl—can be controlled.

As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isn’t merely devoid of rights, her Elemental kind are only born male and always killed at birth—meaning, she shouldn’t even exist.

Standing on the auction block beneath smoke-drenched mountains, Nym faces her fifteenth sell. But when her hood is removed and her storm-summoning killing curse revealed, Nym is snatched up by a court advisor and given a choice: be trained as the weapon Faelen needs to win the war, or be killed.

Choosing the former, Nym is unleashed into a world of politics, bizarre parties, and rumors of an evil more sinister than she’s being prepared to fight . . . not to mention the handsome trainer whose dark secrets lie behind a mysterious ability to calm every lightning strike she summons.

But what if she doesn’t want to be the weapon they’ve all been waiting for?

Set in a beautifully eclectic world of suspicion, super abilities, and monsters, Storm Siren is a story of power. And whoever controls that power will win.

How STORM SIREN Originally Ended

Hey EVERYBODYYYYY! I’m excited to be a part of your blog hunt!! Hope you’re all enjoying it! :0)

Okay, for my post I’ve promised to confess to y’all that my fantasy novel, Storm Siren, originally had a DIFFERENT ending. Meaning, a less traumatic ending. Ahem. (For those who’ve read the book and suffered, don’t hate me. I promise book 2, Siren’s Fury, is out June 2nd.)

A week before the manuscript was due to my publisher I was standing over the stove making spaghetti and wondering what on earth I’d like to change up with the storyline for book 2 – when an addition to the last scene for book 1 popped in my head. I was like, “Ooooh.” And of course I promptly wrote it up and handed it to my daughters – one of whom laughed and said, “Um YES,” while the other threw it on the ground promising she would never read another book of mine if I ended it that way.

So clearly between the two responses, I had to go with it.

However…I thought you might like a peek at that earlier ending, just to see what could’ve been. Here it is, from the point of view of my storm-wielding character, Nym. ;0)

Picking up the knife, I slip it into my boot before kicking the mugplant jar over because suddenly a carved tribute seems pathetic compared to their loss. Compared to Colin’s gift.

I straighten the wrinkles from my overly-fancy, waste-of-a-good-fortune dress and slowly walk to the mirror.

With a few tugs at the clips, my Elemental hair slips free from its bun to fall in long snow flurries down my back. My eyes harden. I shake the siren awake and the cold from my bones just as a soft knock hits my door.

He doesn’t even wait for my “Enter.” Just opens the door, steps in, and pushes it shut behind him with his foot. In one, two, three strides he’s in front of me.

Eogan.

In one more he’s got my chin in his rough hand while slipping his other around my arm. That unruly lock of black hair all but conceals the intensity in his eyes as they search mine, sending my heart thudding and echoing with questions and uncertainty. About him. His future.

About us.

I rest my hand then my head on his chest, and for a moment, this is where I belong. None of the rest matters because my soul is at peace within me. I inhale his scent before lifting my head and sweeping my gaze over his neck and face, searching out the healing bruises, the scratches and cuts I can see, and the internal ones I can’t because they’re hidden behind that annoyingly unfair tweak of a smile.

Before I can say anything his lips are on mine. And my heart is swimming in hope.

Just for fun, I’ve included the above pics – which is how I imagine Eogan in my mind. Sort of a beautiful blending of Idris Elba & Yuya Matsushita.;0)

Alrighty – thank you for having me, guys!! Hope you enjoy the rest of the hunt!!!!!

May the odds be ever in your favor.

xo
